Kim Ann Foxman Mix

Picture via FreqControl.com

Just because something is old, doesn't mean it isn't good. In fact, the opposite is often true. I love sharing new music, but sometimes it's fun to dig in the virtual crates and bring out something a little older. So, here's a mix that the fabulous Kim Ann Foxman did for Beats in Space in 2008! It's chock full of classics, so it is just as good now as it was then.

Check out part 1 for Kim Ann's mix and part 2 for the transition to Beats in Space's Tim Sweeney. I've also included a couple of individual tracks from the mix so enjoy some oldies but goodies this evening!

They recently remixed Mad Decent's Maluca and are DJing all over the world. In the coming months they will release their first EP of originals so they've put out an awesome new mix that includes a couple of the new tracks along with other international/intergalactic bass heavy jams to get us excited!

Horse Meat Disco Mix CD

Last week the Horse Meat Disco DJ collective released their first official mix cd on Strut Records. The cd is a 70 minute set of the best disco, italo, and electro rarities that you would hear if you attended one of their famous Sunday nights at The Eagle in London. The cd is 2-disc set consisting of the mix as well as the individual tracks, (which is a really cool way to offer a dj mix on cd) and as a promo for the cd, the DJs also put out a 30 minute mix available to download for free!

If you aren't familiar with Horse Meat Disco, it was started in 2003 by James Hilliard and Jim Stanton and set out to create a party that harkened back to the disco scene of 1970's New York and "to provide a queer space for everyone after all the best parties have always been the ones where the crowd comes from all walks of life." Since 2003, they've added 2 residents (Severino & Filthy Luka) and the party has grown into one of the biggest venues for the best DJs around with guests like James Murphy, Derrick Carter, Lady Miss Kier, Andy Butler, and tons of others. Besides offering the weekly party in London, they've also taken it on the road so cities all over the world can experience a Horse Meat Disco party!

Horse Meat Disco are currently touring for their cd, but they are pretty much sticking to Europe (besides dates in New York and Toronto) but in the meantime you can download their promo mix, turn off the lights, and dance the night away in your bedroom!

(As a side note Strut also put out the great Disco Not Disco compilation, Disco Italia, and a bunch of other cool stuff...so be prepared to spend money if you hop over to their website!)

EDIT: Thanks to the wonderful world of twitter and all the tweeting and re-tweeting (and our friends at Think Pink Radio), I've learned that HMD also made a mix for FACT Magazine last week! It's equally as awesome (if not more awesome since it features one of the best songs EVER--Ride the White Horse by Laid Back) so click the link to grab that one too!

DJ Total Freedom & NGUZUNGUZU Club Vortex Mix

If you are in L.A. (or have super cool friends there) you've probably heard of Wildness, one of the city's craziest and queerest dance parties. The resident DJs/hosts DJ Total Freedom and NGUZUNGUZU recently played Kingdom's Club Vortex party in New York and made a totally sweet mix for the affair. On the Dutty Artz blog the tracklisting is explained like this: "live mixing on vinyl + parts on ableton + parts on CDJs + live sound effects, vocals, instruments over the whole thing". It's got a lot going on and features a lot of stuff I've never heard before, which is always a plus. I downloaded the mix about a week ago and have been listening to it on repeat since, so I thought I'd share!

FIRE4EFKT

FIRE4EFKT is Zach and Albert from YoungCreature fave SSION. They are somewhat mysterious, but from what I can tell they are primarily a DJ duo, although it seems as if they may make music or do remixes too.

Since I didn't know much about FIRE4EFKT, I decided to download some of their mixes to see what they are all about--and turns out I'm really impressed! The mixes I listened to jumped genres but never felt too awkward and there's a good mix of the familiar and totally weird, which is a great quality in my opinion.

FIRE4EFKT DJ'd a couple of months ago here in Chicago but I didn't go, I'm sure they will be back and I'm sure I'll go. I'll also be sure to keep you updated on what these gay demons are up to.

I've included a couple of their mixes and a couple of videos from their Myspace page. Check it out!
