SSION - Clown

Even though last time we wrote about SSION we got dissed on twitter (apparently we aren't 'cool' enough to post about Cody Critcheloe or SSION?) we're still gonna post about SSION. In fact, I hope everyone posts about SSION because without people spreading the word about indie/underground/weirdo artists nobody would know who or what a SSION is, or alot of other awesome bands/artists/whatevers for that matter.

Anyways, SSION released a video for their song Clown today. The video is a re-edit of clips from SSION's BOY and looks SPECTACULAR. I didn't get a chance to see BOY when it screened in Chicago, so I'm hoping they release a DVD version or something because it looks amazing.

Enjoy the video for Clown and the Glass Candy remix of the song and check out the trailer for BOY too!

SSION - Clown (Glass Candy Remix)

BOY trailer

After a while of talking up SSION's movie "BOY" without any kind of
visual to offer, the trailer is finally online! If you missed the
premiere in Kansas City or the screening in Chicago,
this is your first chance to get a look at, what appears to be,
another amazing project from Cody Critcheloe and SSION.

BOY

Cody Critcheloe, of SSION and vice magazine fame, has written and directed a SSION movie that will be debuting tomorrow in Kansas City. The film is called BOY and as Kansas City's The Pitch blog describes : "The film weaves concert footage, music videos, a regular cast of Ssion characters and hundreds of extras into an integrated and typically eclectic glam-punk celebration of the fringe arts."

The after party will be a queer art star affair with Jeppe djing and guests like Casey Spooner (of Fischerspooner) in attendance.

If you're in KC, check out BOY at Tivoli Cinemas (4050 Pennsylvania Ave) at 7:30 pm tomorrow.

AND...If you wanna make yourself into a SSION face...here's how:

FIRE4EFKT

FIRE4EFKT is Zach and Albert from YoungCreature fave SSION. They are somewhat mysterious, but from what I can tell they are primarily a DJ duo, although it seems as if they may make music or do remixes too.

Since I didn't know much about FIRE4EFKT, I decided to download some of their mixes to see what they are all about--and turns out I'm really impressed! The mixes I listened to jumped genres but never felt too awkward and there's a good mix of the familiar and totally weird, which is a great quality in my opinion.

FIRE4EFKT DJ'd a couple of months ago here in Chicago but I didn't go, I'm sure they will be back and I'm sure I'll go. I'll also be sure to keep you updated on what these gay demons are up to.

I've included a couple of their mixes and a couple of videos from their Myspace page. Check it out!

Electrosexual

Having released the sold-out Fine as Fuck (Scream Club f. Peaches)/I'm Going Crazy EP on his own Rock Machine record label a couple of years ago, electro-sleazer Electrosexual is back with some of new music!

Electrosexual is a Berlin based "one man electronic band" who uses analog synths and a little help from some awesome friends to create music that, as Rough Trade Records describes it, "is standing somewhere between the rawness of the current french scene and the funk of Chicks on Speed". The song we were lucky enough to get from him, "Break You Nice" is no exception to that. It has 2 or 3 funky basslines running under and over swirling synths, an 80's backbeat, diva vocals, space noises, Scream Club rapping, and maybe even a Madonna sample! There's a lot going on in the song, including more guest appearances from Zoe Vermillion (of Vermillion Lies) and Mz Sunday Luv, but it's never too much and everything combines to make a fun, upbeat jam. It's a 4-minute good time that SHOULD find it's way into your queer dance party mix soon!

Electrosexual is currently working on a full-length album with appearances from Shunda K (of Yo Majesty), Nicky Clik, Jenna Riot, and Sheila Chipperfield (of Elastica), amongst others, and is working on a project with Mirah! He also recently did remixes of SSION's "Ah Ma" and "Sucker for Your Sound" from the Sheffield based band I Monster, so be sure to check those out! In addition to all of that--Electrosexual will be playing some shows in Europe, so if you are like my friend Syd and just moved to Berlin--Check him out live! As if that wasn't enough, Electrosexual just released a Spring mix tape, jump over here for that one.

Hawnay Troof's new video!

If you don't know Hawnay Troof's music, you may know him from his remixes (Ssion's Street Jizz, Gravy Train's Hella Nervous, etc.), by association (through contributors like Jenny Hoyston or Drew Daniel), or you may have heard of his one time back up singer, Peaches.

Either way, if you know him or not, he's got a brand new video for Underneath the Ocean (off of his Islands of Ayle album) that's pretty rad. It was made by Antuong Nguyen of Moop Jaw and it's a total sweaty psychedelic rap journey.

Here's the Hawney Troof video, Moop Jaw's video for the Golden Filter's Solid Gold, and the Hawney Troof Street Jizz remix! Enjoy

The White Worm

I'm not sure how it happened, as it often is with the internets, but I stumbled upon an interview with this band The White Worm

The interview (conducted by Cody Critcheloe from SSION) starts like this: "The future of lesbian music can be summed up in two words: WHITE WORM!" I'm not sure if lesbians can be convinced of that, especially since it's kind of unclear whether or not White Worm is a joke, but their drunken night of Hole karaoke and a couple of Ambien version of Stevie Nicks' Stand Back has got me convinced.

Also--the members of the band, Erin Zona and Rachel Mesplay Helm, seem like total pothead weirdos, which is always a plus. Check out Erin Zona's blog for more on her creative process.
