Right Hand Hi (Kingdom Remix)

After waiting and being teased by Fools Gold Records for like ever, the Kingdom remix of Kid Sister's summer jam "Right Hand Hi" has finally been released on iTunes! I bought the Kingdom remix (but didn't spring for the Kill the Noise version) and, as usual, it's pure fire!

I'm really excited that Kingdom is getting some (much deserved) attention. With Fool's Gold releasing his great track "Mind Reader" (f. Shyvonne), being featured in The Fader, and playing parties all over the country, he's on his way to a BIG 2010.

Here's a 30 second preview of the Right Hand Hi remix to get you excited, but DEFINITELY jump over to iTunes and BUY it!

Noisy Pig REMIX Contest!

A little while back we posted some songs from Berlin based artist Noisy Pig. If you didn't read the post, he makes weirdo pop music with the glockenspeile, melodica, toys, other stuff, his voice, and a deep love for Bikini Kill. His music is already totally fun and dancey, but he wants YOU to remix his song PANDA BRAIN!

Click on the links to download the parts and work some magic.

HNYSNDSYSTM

Honey Soundsystem is a San Francisco based queer DJ collective/production group who throw a weekly party called Honey Sundays at the Paradise Loft in SF's SOMA neighborhood AND who were recently added to the 2009 Homo A Go Go lineup. If guests like Horsemeat Disco, Hercules & Love Affair, and Cosmo Vitelli are any indication of what a Honey Soundsystem party is like, it should be one of the best ways to spend a Sunday night in San Francisco for sure!

The Honey resident DJs will be appearing throughout the weekend at Homo A Go Go and doing their usual thing on Sunday night, so be sure to check out the fagged out dirty disco of Honey Soundsystem!

To give you a taste of the Honey Soundsystem crew, here's a mix from resident DJ Robot Hustle.

"The vinyl hustler spits out another slick mix of oddities and sounds you might need to put a ladder outside your window to get in late at night. Complete with robot tape fuzz to keep your dick hard, this one is short and sweet." (from the Honey Soundsystem website)

Queer fun in Chicago this week!

So after everyone's Pride/Shame hangovers have subsided, the city of Chicago has seemed a little off kilter the last week. No street drinking, combined with this amazing 70 degree weather, it for sure does not feel like a big gay summer to me.
However, this is such an awesome week to be queer in Chicago!
Friday June 10th is going to be a super fun night. First, it's Think Pink Radio Friday at Wang's (3317 N Broadway)! It's a ball, and not just because this blog has a friend-crush on that blog -

A) Wangs is a gorgeous teeny tiny baby bar with just enough room for the lighting to accentuate your best features, without the harassment of the usual Boystown/Wrigleyville fence sitters, stroller pushers, and lost trixies. So so so good. (Make sure you check out the artwork in the bathroom. Gold star lezzies, you might wanna avert your eyes at first... I sure did ... but I've grown to love it)
and!
B) DJ Stinky Pinky plays super-fun music in such a chilled out, non-pretentious atmosphere! Seriously sweet remixes and queer dance tracks, he brings the perfect background track to your fancy shmancy martinis and $5 Tecate + Tequila shots (note: DANGEROUS). I almost don't want to post about it, because I love it so much and like always being able to get a spot in there.... but I'll share my secrets with you. The Creatures will be pre-gaming here for sure before we go see...

MEN live at Berlin! Do I really have to say any more than that? Accompanied by the Chances DJs and DJ Greg Haus (who also plays the freakiest and bestest music videos every Monday at a certain employer of 1/2 of the Creatures). I'm super super excited to finally see MEN! Working on the weekends really ruins my shot at seeing any good touring acts, so I'm a lucky girl to get a shot at it this Friday.

But hey, so you work on the weekends too? Bummer, but trust... we've got you. On Tuesday, July 14th, get ready for bffs of the blog, SF / PDX band Forever!

They are totally adorable, need I say more? Oh wait, we already did. In the midst of their US tour (have you seen them yet? If you live west of Chicago, there's a good chance they're on their way to your town!), they're stopping by to give us a taste of their sweet, sweet medicine. They'll be at Ronny's Bar (2101 N California ave), which has the most amazing PBR lined bathroom in the world. If you're squeamish or prone to squatting in public restrooms, stay home. Show starts at 9pm, and playing with The Cellphones, who I don't know a damn thing about but this girl has got a VOICE! So so so excited for this show and getting very pumped to get my dykebitch drink on in such fine company.

What are you doing this week? Have we missed anything particularly fabulous? Will we see you there?

Kingdom + Black Box + Martha Wash

So...last weekend was "Gay Pride" and I feel like I've just now recovered. I'm gonna put this out there: I hate Pride. I think that it's mostly just a way for otherwise straight businesses to suck money out of gays for a weekend. However, I do love drinking on the street, so I did a lot of "Pride" activities. One of those activities that was actually pretty awesome was seeing (mostly hearing) Martha Wash.

Martha Wash, if you didn't know already, sang on a bunch of 90's dance hits including C&C Music Factory's "Everybody Dance Now" as well as Black Box's "Everybody Everybody" and was in the Weather Girls (It's Raining Men) AND sang backup for Sylvester. So, she's pretty much a gay icon across the board. All these years later Martha still sounds great and I feel having her perform this year was great timing, with the 90's being super "in" right now. I still hate gay pride events, but I'm glad the organizers booked Martha Wash.

This brings me to the kind of gay pride I can stand behind, queer/gays/whatever being awesome and not wearing shirts with numbers on them, or just wearing shirts. One such person is New York's DJ/Producer Kingdom. I've written about Kingdom before because I'm a big fan of what he does, but it seems fitting to post this remix he did recently of a Black Box song featuring Martha Wash.

It's like everything now makes sense.

Here's Kingdom's remix of Black Box's "I Don't Know Anybody Else" and the classic "Everybody Everybody". Enjoy!

Noisy Pig!

I automatically have a soft spot in my heart for anyone who claims that their passion for music began when they bought their first Bikini Kill record, so there was no way I could dislike Berlin based musician Noisy Pig.

Noisy Pig is the sugar buzzed solo project from Bernardo Santarelli (formerly of no-wave band Dada Swing) that combines drums, glockenspeile, melodica, toys, samplers and whatever else that gets in his way to make kitschy catchy awesome weirdo pop music. Noisy Pig sounds kind of like if they dropped the "this is for kids" schtick on Yo Gabba Gabba, put on a LeTigre record backwards, and got down to some real acid-dropping, bunny suit wearing, dance party business. But you don't have to take my word for it.

Besides being a totally sweet musician, Noisy Pig also is a real somebody. Santarelli is the co-organizer/resident DJ of Poopsy Club (which has been called Berlin's funniest queer party!!), has performed at queer festivals all over Europe, and played shows with Erase Errata, Deerhoof, Dan Deacon and a bunch of other bands you've heard of!

In March, Disaster #1, the first full length record from Noisy Pig, came out on Cochon Records and features 12 songs and guest spots from the likes of Allison Wolfe (Bratmobile/Partyline) and Brezel Goering (Stereo Total/Echokrank). The record also has remixes of the hit "Magic Pee" from Hawnay Troof and Eats Tapes!

Noisy Pig was nice enough to send us over some jams for you to check out, but you should REALLY buy the record!

Now everyone say "Thank You Noisy Pig"

We're on fire with DJ mixes!!

Kingdom made this mix for Lower End Spasm last week or so and it rules. (get it?! rules..kingdom...puns don't translate very well in writing, do they?)

Anyways, for those of you who may not know, Kingdom is not just a DJ--He also happens to produce our friends OMG Michelle. Also, pay attention to the beginning of the mix to hear his track Mind Reader (feat. Shyvonne) it's out of control good!

Get ready to move.
