Mind Reader CFCF Remix

If you are a reader of music blogs...which you probably are since you're reading this one...you've probably heard some CFCF remixes. Montreal's Mike Silver (AKA CFCF) has already turned out great remixes for HEALTH, Crystal Castles, Fan Death, Sally Shapiro (plus a bunch of others!) and now you can add Kingdom's Mind Reader to the list.

The CFCF remix brings the energy down a little bit, but keeps the vocal pretty much in tact, making it sound more like a fresh r&b song than the dancefloor jam that is the original. Good stuff!

Check it out along with a cover of Fleetwood Mac's Big Love below! AND don't forget to pick up the limited edition 10" of Mind Reader on Acephale!

Mind Reader

We've been hearing snippets of Kingdom's Mind Reader for quite a while now, but it's finally out...with remixes! The digital release came out yesterday and features remixes from Todd Edwards, Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990. The 12" is coming soon on Fool's Gold and you can order a limited edition 10" of Mind Reader with You as a b-side from Acephale now.

Check out the L-Vis 1990 remix here and buy the record for the rest!

Kingdom Fabric Live Mix

Hologram by Paul Cupo

In case you haven't been keeping up with Kingdom, he's officially blowing up. I first became familiar Kingdom's music when he produced my friends' band OMG Michelle a couple of years back, but since then he's gotten huge on "the blogs", signed to A-Trak and Nick Catchdub's Fool's Gold label and now he's set to play FabricLive in London. In preparation for that set, he's put out an awesome new mix featuring tracks from his upcoming Mind Reader EP, some remixes he's done and other heavy jams definitely worth checking out.

Mind Reader comes out as a digital and 12" release on February 2nd on Fool's Gold and you can preorder a (very) limited edition 10" from Acephale now...but in the meantime check out the solid FABRICLIVE/Fool's Gold promo mix and a track from (female!) producer Cooly G.

Right Hand Hi (Kingdom Remix)

After waiting and being teased by Fools Gold Records for like ever, the Kingdom remix of Kid Sister's summer jam "Right Hand Hi" has finally been released on iTunes! I bought the Kingdom remix (but didn't spring for the Kill the Noise version) and, as usual, it's pure fire!

I'm really excited that Kingdom is getting some (much deserved) attention. With Fool's Gold releasing his great track "Mind Reader" (f. Shyvonne), being featured in The Fader, and playing parties all over the country, he's on his way to a BIG 2010.

Here's a 30 second preview of the Right Hand Hi remix to get you excited, but DEFINITELY jump over to iTunes and BUY it!

DJ Total Freedom & NGUZUNGUZU Club Vortex Mix

If you are in L.A. (or have super cool friends there) you've probably heard of Wildness, one of the city's craziest and queerest dance parties. The resident DJs/hosts DJ Total Freedom and NGUZUNGUZU recently played Kingdom's Club Vortex party in New York and made a totally sweet mix for the affair. On the Dutty Artz blog the tracklisting is explained like this: "live mixing on vinyl + parts on ableton + parts on CDJs + live sound effects, vocals, instruments over the whole thing". It's got a lot going on and features a lot of stuff I've never heard before, which is always a plus. I downloaded the mix about a week ago and have been listening to it on repeat since, so I thought I'd share!

Check it!

Kingdom + Black Box + Martha Wash

So...last weekend was "Gay Pride" and I feel like I've just now recovered. I'm gonna put this out there: I hate Pride. I think that it's mostly just a way for otherwise straight businesses to suck money out of gays for a weekend. However, I do love drinking on the street, so I did a lot of "Pride" activities. One of those activities that was actually pretty awesome was seeing (mostly hearing) Martha Wash.

Martha Wash, if you didn't know already, sang on a bunch of 90's dance hits including C&C Music Factory's "Everybody Dance Now" as well as Black Box's "Everybody Everybody" and was in the Weather Girls (It's Raining Men) AND sang backup for Sylvester. So, she's pretty much a gay icon across the board. All these years later Martha still sounds great and I feel having her perform this year was great timing, with the 90's being super "in" right now. I still hate gay pride events, but I'm glad the organizers booked Martha Wash.

This brings me to the kind of gay pride I can stand behind, queer/gays/whatever being awesome and not wearing shirts with numbers on them, or just wearing shirts. One such person is New York's DJ/Producer Kingdom. I've written about Kingdom before because I'm a big fan of what he does, but it seems fitting to post this remix he did recently of a Black Box song featuring Martha Wash.

It's like everything now makes sense.

Here's Kingdom's remix of Black Box's "I Don't Know Anybody Else" and the classic "Everybody Everybody". Enjoy!
