FIRE4EFKT is Zach and Albert from YoungCreature fave SSION. They are somewhat mysterious, but from what I can tell they are primarily a DJ duo, although it seems as if they may make music or do remixes too.

Since I didn't know much about FIRE4EFKT, I decided to download some of their mixes to see what they are all about--and turns out I'm really impressed! The mixes I listened to jumped genres but never felt too awkward and there's a good mix of the familiar and totally weird, which is a great quality in my opinion.

FIRE4EFKT DJ'd a couple of months ago here in Chicago but I didn't go, I'm sure they will be back and I'm sure I'll go. I'll also be sure to keep you updated on what these gay demons are up to.

Failure of Self

YoungCreature friend Thomas Boettner from Fire Island, AK just sent us the news of his latest release. Coming out today (June 5) Failure of Self is a 3 track/3 disc/73 minute ride through Boettner's collection of fuzz and nightmares.

Vibrate like a Nokia

Major Lazer are getting ready to drop their debut in about 2 weeks, and I couldn't be more excited. The pet project of 2 of the most powerhouse producers in indie dance (Diplo + Switch), they've leaked some singles which have been getting lots of remix attention. You all know these DJs, both of M.I.A. production fame, as well as their remixes for other artists like CSS, Hot Chip, Britney Spears, Spank Rock, Bjork, and Nine Inch Nails. Last I heard, Diplo was producing some beats for the new Kelis record (the samples of the tracks MURDER), while Switch was producing the new Tricky record.

Their first single strays a bit from the baile funk sound we'd expect from Diplo and trades it in for a more dancehall surf rock feel. Imagine Lady Saw going batshit over "Rock Lobster": "Hold The Line" is sort of like that. Mr. Lexx and Santigold hop on the track and wreck the shit out of it. I can't wait to hear the entire album and I'm pretty sure it will be the soundtrack of summer 2009.

Teardrops on My Telephone

Hey, you remember Hunx from Gravy Train? Well, he has been working on a solo project for a while now called Hunx and his Punx. The project combines Hunx' kind of snotty gay singing with a D.I.Y. version of 60's bubblegum pop. I'm not sure if there is a record in the works, but so far he's released 2 double-sided singles and a single single, and has Don't Cha Want Me Back/The Last Time coming out this month. The video for his most recent release, Teardrops on My Telephone, just came out and is a campy good time. Check it out!

Foreign Exchange Students

(Yes I know this picture is for Fashion Against AIDS, it's the only photo I didn't have to work on myself where they appeared together, sue me for being lazy).

So iTunes has been upping their cred for me by releasing the second single in their series of Foreign Exchange. The first one was some crappy german band and +44 and frankly, I don't really care for +44. But the concept was cool and it was only time before they put 2 of the best recent electropop singers together on a single. Robyn covers Yelle's "A Cause Des Garcon", while Yelle covers Robyn's "Who's That Girl?". I love their take on one another's jams. I can only hope iTunes will continue this cool idea with more consistent bands (May I recommend Sufjan Stevens vs. Shugo Tokumaru? Or Vivian Girls vs. Les Plastiscines?) Anyways, there aren't any mp3s (You can buy the songs off iTunes and frankly, for 99 cents, it's pretty worth it) but here are some clips.
