Ultra Hate

Young Creature friend and fave Fire Island, AK just sent us some info on a noisy new project. ULTRA HATE, an Internet-only EP was recently released on the Collective Family (CLLCT.com) for free streaming and download. t.boettner describes his latest project as "a strange remix album of sorts. mixes of gay house music (ew), a familiar disco standard, bits of my older work, and some other insanity." Ultra Hate is definitely a break from our usual fare, but as I've said before, I really appreciate when members of our community break away from the same old song and dance (routine). Jump over here to listen to and/or download the tracks!

Also, this would be an awesome EP to put on during Halloween. Forget Thriller, put something on that is actually dark and unnerving to celebrate a holiday that should be more about demons and less about sexy bees.

Here's the track that samples the "familiar disco standard":

Pictureplane

Fleetwood Mac sampling, psychedelic-punk-house musician/multimedia artist/Rhinoceropolis art collective member Pictureplane has been one busy dude lately. He's released his great new album Dark Rift on Lovepump United, made a sampler full of Denver musicians, and a new mix for The Fader magazine...all while preparing for a US tour with HEALTH.

If you aren't familiar with Pictureplane, his music is kind of like an impromptu rave full of gay teenagers and their goth cousins that have been sucked into a black hole and then shot out of a noise punk cannon back into space. In other words, it's awesome.

Check out his Creep #5 mix and Goth Star and the video for Trance Doll. Enjoy!

fire island, AK

Working with found sounds, instant messenger samples, acoustics, electronics, and other tape recorded demonology, fire island, AK makes challenging, complex, and insane homosexual noise music that thankfully found it's way into our inbox.

I'm not going to lie, I've never sat down and listened to any noise bands. One time Wolf Eyes played at my college and that is the extent of my knowledge of noise. However, I don't need to be an expert to realize the thought and precision that goes into something that sounds as totally chaotic as the songs T. Boettner produces as fire island, AK. Being a homo constantly mistaken for a straight undercover cop or skinhead in South Carolina might have a little something to do with the dark nature of Boettner's music, but being a musician, first and foremost, allows him to create the intricately layered sonic seances and that musicianship is evident even in the most noisy noise.

The only way I can really sum it up is like this: Have you ever taken mushrooms? fire island, AK sounds like the part where you think that you will never feel normal again or that you are probably dying, but you still want to do mushrooms. That is what fire island, AK is like.
