SXSW

So, I'm really bummed out that we aren't gonna make it to SXSW this year. First of all, I've never been and think it's about time I go. Second, who doesn't wanna see TONS of awesome bands/artists/djs/films/whatevers all in one place? And besides all that it's so fun to see friends, not work and be wild for a week. BUT...I'm not going. However, there's always next year (and maybe next year will be even better) and MAYBE you'll even see some sort of Young Creature/Soul Ponies collabo!

However, this is 2010 so let's forget about next year for now and check out some of the stuff that would surely be on our schedule this year.

Wednesday

Good Kisser

Hunx and His Punx' 'Gay Singles' have just been released on Matador Records. The LP is a collection of the 5 previously released 7" (out of print) singles and a new song called "Do The Makeup". I don't think I could explain it any better than Matador, so here's what they said: "Amazing, at once hilarious and deeply good pop songs, like the Gay Ramones mixed with Ronettes filmed by John Waters."

He also just released a cute new video for "Good Kisser" made by Janelle Hessig. Check out the video and jump over here to pick up the record!

Teardrops on My Telephone

Hey, you remember Hunx from Gravy Train? Well, he has been working on a solo project for a while now called Hunx and his Punx. The project combines Hunx' kind of snotty gay singing with a D.I.Y. version of 60's bubblegum pop. I'm not sure if there is a record in the works, but so far he's released 2 double-sided singles and a single single, and has Don't Cha Want Me Back/The Last Time coming out this month. The video for his most recent release, Teardrops on My Telephone, just came out and is a campy good time. Check it out!

Homo A Go Go 2009 Confirmed Artists!

So, I've never been to Homo-a-go-go but I can confidently say it is one of the greatest queer events EVER. Team Dresch reunited for the 2004 incarnation and that alone is enough to prove the point.

The festival combines music, art, fashion, film, workshops, and freaky queers for a weekend of magic. It was originally held in the indie capital of the world, Olympia, Washington but this year it will take place August 13-16 in San Francisco. As the Homo A Go Go website says: "Plan your Gaycation now!"

This year's festival has a ton of our faves and if I weren't so scared of flying, I would DEFINITELY be there!

There's gonna be a ton of other cool artists, but here's a list of the confirmed performers:

Girl In A Coma, Mirah, Purple Rhinstone Eagle, Katastrophe, Hunx and His Punx, D.a.v.O., Krylon Superstar, Partyline, Tara Jane O'Neil, Tender Forever, The Pickup Pattern, Sgt. Sass, Pariah Piranha, Lovers, Argyle Miss, Jenna Riot, Amy Kasio, Dorian Wood, Mon Cousin Belge, The Younger Lovers, Benni E, Puce Moment, Madame Morte, Alexander Crumbsnatcher, Athens Boys Choir, Lenelle Moïse, Team Gina, Dave End, Yr Heart Breaks, Nomy Lamm, The Casual Lust, Light Leaks, Tori Fixx, Jeremy Gloff, MKG FRNDZ, Warm Streams, The Judy Experience, Kirk Read, Rhiannon Argo, Clint Catalyst.

I think I might take off the month of August and drive out to California...this is not to be missed!
