Crappy Valentine's Gay

So Valentine's Day is around the corner and this year is a fresh year. I don't need flowers or candy and shit cause I'm gonna be kickin' it with my independent women parts 1 AND 2. Every fucking year it's always like boo hoo, being single sucks. You know what? I don't even want to have to think about what shit to pick out for someone. If I had my way, a boy would be like, I picked you up McDonald's and brought over the entire first season of Freaks and Geeks. You ready to chill? And you know that's how shit is with me.

To kick off the girl party, Robyn's new song has leaked and if you recognize the fat squishy bassline, it's because Diplo produced it. Also some jams from Mapei, The Pipettes, and Kelis. Valentine's Day is gonna get fucked up.

Robyn - No Hassle

Mapei - Video Vixens

The Pipettes - Our Love Was Saved By The Spaceman

Kelis - They Say (ft. Kid Cudi)

You readers are fucking awesome. And you want to know why? Cause when I listened to "I WIsh I Was Him", all I heard was KATHLEEN. And then I went right back to listening to my crappy k-pop and cried myself to sleep. I guess my mind does not function that way. I can't really multi-task, as much as I try to. Anywho...

I love a good cover. Who doesn't? Sometimes they're straightforward and other times, bands turn these songs into something so unimaginable, it hurts to even think about. Being in a band, I've had MANY a dream about covers. And when I think about it, all I want to cover is "Love Will Never Do Without You" by Janet Jackson. "Surf City" by Jan & Dean runs a very close second. Ugh covers.

Role call:

Doveman - Let's Hear It For The Boy (Deniece Williams)

Bette Midler - Leader Of The Pack (The Shangri-Las)
This one gets crazy at the end, guys.

Glass Candy - Johnny, Are You Queer? (Josie Cotton)

Department Of Eagles - Too Little Too Late (Jojo)

Robyn - Since U Been Gone (Kelly Clarkson)

Foreign Exchange Students

(Yes I know this picture is for Fashion Against AIDS, it's the only photo I didn't have to work on myself where they appeared together, sue me for being lazy).

So iTunes has been upping their cred for me by releasing the second single in their series of Foreign Exchange. The first one was some crappy german band and +44 and frankly, I don't really care for +44. But the concept was cool and it was only time before they put 2 of the best recent electropop singers together on a single. Robyn covers Yelle's "A Cause Des Garcon", while Yelle covers Robyn's "Who's That Girl?". I love their take on one another's jams. I can only hope iTunes will continue this cool idea with more consistent bands (May I recommend Sufjan Stevens vs. Shugo Tokumaru? Or Vivian Girls vs. Les Plastiscines?) Anyways, there aren't any mp3s (You can buy the songs off iTunes and frankly, for 99 cents, it's pretty worth it) but here are some clips.

Robyn - Because Of Boys

Yelle - Qui Est Cette Fille?

Prop 8, Robyn, and Royksopp

Everyone has their own views about gay marriage, and the contributors to Young Creature are no different. Me? I believe in radical marriage. I don't think that matrimony has to be an inherently patriarchial institution, and that traditions are what you make them. I also think it's important that queer people are recognized legally as people, and that our relationships, no matter how we form them, are protected against bigots by the law.
So, as an anti-assimilationist dyke bitch and a lady who also wants to get hitched some day, I'm totally totally psyched that the California Supreme Court has announced that it will announce their decision on Prop 8 on Tuesday, May 26th!!

Love it, hate it, don't care one bit, or whatever, nobody can say that Tuesday won't be a big day for queer history. Bring it, California! And seriously, Cali, let's have a little talk here. If you become a state where you can buy pot very important medical necessities in a store AND get gay married (bonus points for drive-thru chapels), get ready for some serious new residency in the form of this Creature.

To take it down a notch - check out Röyksopp's new video featuring Robyn for "The Girl and The Robot". I adore Robyn, but she's a little like Ludacris in the way that she is so much better on other people's songs than her own (see: With Every Heartbeat)

She's totally gone high femme for this video, a huge departure from her usual androgynous attire. Robyn, I wonder about you (you're obviously a huge lez... right? or at least bisexual, and not in a Fergie way). This video is totally crazy. I'm not sure what I don't understand more... you going drag on us, or the ending of this video. Either way, the song is ammmaaazzziinnnnggggg. I can't wait to hear the remixes, because this song should totally be about six minutes longer!
