She's Lost Control

On April 29 in Austria Deerhoof and Xiu Xiu will team up to do a live cover of Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures album. I imagine some people are gonna be doing the indie rock version of shaking and crying while others will find it blasphemous to even consider covering such a monumental record, but either way it's an interesting concept. I happen to love covers (even bad ones) and collaborations so this is something I'd definitely go see. Two good bands coming together to cover a great record? Yes please.

As a side note, the rest of the lineup for the donaufestival isn't too shabby either. You can catch Panda Bear, Peaches, Dan Deacon and more April 28 - May 8 in Krems, Austria.

In the meantime here are some tracks from Xiu Xiu and Deerhoof and some other Joy Division covers. Enjoy!

Xiu Xiu - Dear God, I Hate Myself

Deerhoof - Vivid Cheek Love Song

Grace Jones - She's Lost Control (Joy Division cover)

LCD Soundsystem - No Love Lost (Joy Division cover)

You readers are fucking awesome. And you want to know why? Cause when I listened to "I WIsh I Was Him", all I heard was KATHLEEN. And then I went right back to listening to my crappy k-pop and cried myself to sleep. I guess my mind does not function that way. I can't really multi-task, as much as I try to. Anywho...

I love a good cover. Who doesn't? Sometimes they're straightforward and other times, bands turn these songs into something so unimaginable, it hurts to even think about. Being in a band, I've had MANY a dream about covers. And when I think about it, all I want to cover is "Love Will Never Do Without You" by Janet Jackson. "Surf City" by Jan & Dean runs a very close second. Ugh covers.

Role call:

Doveman - Let's Hear It For The Boy (Deniece Williams)

Bette Midler - Leader Of The Pack (The Shangri-Las)
This one gets crazy at the end, guys.

Glass Candy - Johnny, Are You Queer? (Josie Cotton)

Department Of Eagles - Too Little Too Late (Jojo)

Robyn - Since U Been Gone (Kelly Clarkson)

Covers!

Since Grizzly Bear just covered Hot Chip's Boy From School, I thought a covers post was in order! I'm pretty sure everybody loves a good cover, so there's really not much else to say.

This post could be like ten pages long, so we'll probably do more covers posts in the future, but in the meantime here's Grizzly Bear's cover and a few other great ones that feel right for today.

Enjoy!

Lavender Diamond + My College Years

If there is one song that reminds me of my drunken/drugged out college years it's Madonna's Like A Prayer. It was played - without fail - at every single college party there was during my four years and probably for years after. Add Lavender Diamond, some tripped out animation from Jacob Ciocci of Paper Rad, art from Tom McConnell & Ron Rege Jr, and direction from Peter Glantz and you pretty much have that time I got lost on the main lawn while on mushrooms.

Oh college.

Anyways, I found this over at Tussy Talk (one of our blog friends you should TOTALLY check out) so enjoy and try not to get lost.

COVERED THIS.

Solange Knowes - Stillness Is The Move (Dirty Projectors cover)

Can someone explain to me how Solange caught even a whiff of awareness of Dirty Projectors?

Here are some more weirdo covers:

The Slits - I Heard It Through The Grapevine (The Miracles cover)

The Boy Least Likely To - The One That I Want (Grease cover)

Owen Pallett & Ed Droste - Possibly Maybe (Bjork cover)
