A while ago, I wrote about Simian Mobile Disco's follow up record "Temporary Pleasure" and gave out an mp3 featuring Chris Keating from Yeasayer. Well more songs have leaked since then and one of them features Beth Ditto of the Gossip. Continuing in the vein of slinky, sexy jams, "Cruel Intentions" is as much a single as a companion piece to "Audacity Of Huge". Beth's vocals are more restrained then her usual fare of punk screams and big vibrato. But it really suits the music very well so I'm re-excited for this record to come out.
Also strangely, the picture above comes from like, a 2006/2007 issue of Pop! magazine (it's more like the thickness of a book, I don't know what they're talking about calling it a magazine) that I have lying around my apartment. Beth did a photo shoot for them with some skinny male model as well as interviewing Yoko Ono, but really all my attention was on the fact that all these high end brands were finally making clothes that fit the majority of America. And she looked DAMN good.

So, I guess I'm out of the loop, but apparently there's some kind of ongoing feud between Beth Ditto and that skank Katy Perry? Awesome.
Anyways, "kitty purry" was angered when Beth called her a "boner dyke", or for those of you who are unfamiliar with the best thing I've ever heard, that's a girl who kisses other girls to attract men. This is HILARIOUS! Also-- When asked about calling the "I Kissed a Girl" drowning cat a "boner dyke" the only thing Beth said to clarify was "I feel guilty because it is such a funny expression and Hannah (Billie) didn't get the credit for it, but I don't feel differently than Hannah." A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! Katy Perry really struck back by letting everyone know she is "not impressed" with Beth Ditto. That's all you got?
Of course, I'd be selling Beth Ditto short if I didn't mention that she went on to speak about the seriousness of Perry's flippant pop garbage of a song's effect on the public. She went on to say "It's not about Katy Perry. It's about this song and its innocence on her part. To her, it's just this party song. But as a gay person, it's like, 'Oh, of course this straight person singing about kissing a girl goes straight to Top 40 and people buy this record. Who can give a f--- about real gay people?' That's what's really painful about the whole thing. That's what makes me laugh about 'I'm not impressed.' It's like, 'Oh, that's what you think? Of course, because you never thought about what a real gay person feels, and the impact that a song like that has on the gay world in a time of crucial civil rights.' That's just one of the examples of what the mainstream is thinking about queer culture, when actually, we are completely fighting for our rights right now."
Beth also relayed a story of exactly how much it sucks to not have equal rights. You can read the original article here.
Add this to the list of things that make Beth Ditto amazing!

Photos of Beth Ditto's line for plus size UK retailer Evans have been released. The line will be offered in sizes 10-24 (or 14-32 in the UK) and are kind of 80's/early 90's style. Not necessarily my cup of tea, but this will surely be a welcome addition to the fashion world for bigger girls. The line will debut July 9th and for those of you interested and willing to pay a buttload for freight, Evans does ship to the U.S.!

My upstairs neighbors are jamming to "Rock You Like a Hurricane", I'd kind of like to hear the Gossip cover that.
Although that's probably not going to happen, but Beth Ditto did talk about some details of the upcoming Gossip record during an interview she did for the latest issue of Out Magazine.
In the interview Beth let it be known that "Music for Men", the band's 4th full-length record, will be coming out June 22 and was produced by Rick Rubin. Rubin, as you probably know, has produced a song or an album for pretty much everyone you've ever heard of so who knows what to expect from the new Gossip album!
Actually, I do. Out Magazine described it only as Out Magazine could by saying: (the album is) "Reportedly sprinkled with more of that Europop-disco sound that has served Kylie Minogue so well...". I kind of think that's the dumbest description of anything I've ever heard, but if that means they are making a more dance oriented record, I'm all for it! I played the remixes from their last album to death, so I can only imagine good stuff to come from this.
