Dance like a white boy

Master Shortie is a UK rapper loosely associated with the "Wonky Pop" term that's been thrown around to describe quality pop overseas. The third sentence on his Wikipedia biography states that he is a giant penis, which for a gaysian with a thing for black men, I can only hope and pray. His jams are guaranteed to get hipsters and pop fanatics jumping in the club (or in my case, on my bed, literally this afternoon. I don't know how I haven't broken the poor thing). What's that song? Did I just hear an ADAM & THE ANTS SAMPLE? Fuck, yes! His album "A.D.H.D." has been pushed back due to recording and touring, but you can listen to his first 2 singles. His album should be coming later this year, courtesy of his Odd Man Out imprint:

New Peaches video

I go back and forth on Peaches. I really liked her first album in like 2000 or whenever it came out, but i REALLY don't need to hear Fuck the Pain Away EVER AGAIN. I'm always kind of shocked and amazed when I hear that out. That fact makes me kind of hate Peaches. It's not her fault people continue to hold on to that song, I mean, it's obviously good for her that she made such an "impact" or whatever, but it makes me sort of dislike her, or maybe I've disliked her all these years because none of the songs since have had that kind of appeal, I'm not sure. Either way, I think I might like the new stuff she's doing! I hate hate hated all the stuff in between Teaches of Peaches and now, but I'm liking the new songs...that could be because she had help from some top-notch electro producers like Simian Mobile Disco, Soulwax, Digitalism, etc.- nonetheless it's a step in the right direction. Hopefully the songs off her new album (I Feel Cream, May 5) don't get played at every queer party for the next 10 years though, I can definitely do without that.

The video for the second single "More" was released a few days ago and it's mostly Peaches posturing and making ugly faces, but that's like her thing, and that's cool. After you watch it I think you will agree that the balloon creatures are definitely the best part.

Check it out!

Homo A Go Go 2009 Confirmed Artists!

So, I've never been to Homo-a-go-go but I can confidently say it is one of the greatest queer events EVER. Team Dresch reunited for the 2004 incarnation and that alone is enough to prove the point.

The festival combines music, art, fashion, film, workshops, and freaky queers for a weekend of magic. It was originally held in the indie capital of the world, Olympia, Washington but this year it will take place August 13-16 in San Francisco. As the Homo A Go Go website says: "Plan your Gaycation now!"

This year's festival has a ton of our faves and if I weren't so scared of flying, I would DEFINITELY be there!

There's gonna be a ton of other cool artists, but here's a list of the confirmed performers:

Girl In A Coma, Mirah, Purple Rhinstone Eagle, Katastrophe, Hunx and His Punx, D.a.v.O., Krylon Superstar, Partyline, Tara Jane O'Neil, Tender Forever, The Pickup Pattern, Sgt. Sass, Pariah Piranha, Lovers, Argyle Miss, Jenna Riot, Amy Kasio, Dorian Wood, Mon Cousin Belge, The Younger Lovers, Benni E, Puce Moment, Madame Morte, Alexander Crumbsnatcher, Athens Boys Choir, Lenelle Moïse, Team Gina, Dave End, Yr Heart Breaks, Nomy Lamm, The Casual Lust, Light Leaks, Tori Fixx, Jeremy Gloff, MKG FRNDZ, Warm Streams, The Judy Experience, Kirk Read, Rhiannon Argo, Clint Catalyst.

I think I might take off the month of August and drive out to California...this is not to be missed!

The shit men do with their penises

Here at Young Creature, we (ok, so maybe just 2 of us) search the internet for weird blogs that focus on crazy shit. As of late, my newest obsession is looking at blogs focusing on the almighty penis and how men stupidly use them. Putting your dick in a toilet roll? Check! How about scoring a soccer goal? Oh yes! Men are weirdly proud of their penises (excluding me, I will deny til the day I die that I have one) and will do anything and everything with it. SERIOUSLY. WHY DO GUYS DO THIS SHIT? I'm not gonna lie, it's strangely alluring and simultaneously awe inspiring. And not in the good way.

Phallic Cymbals

Awkward Boners

I seriously hope like, a bagillion of these blogs pop up all over the internet. And also a trend of weird shit girls do with their tits. You can never do enough weird shit to your boobs.

P.S. These blogs are totally not safe for work, unless your place of work is Leather Sport. Chicagoans, you know what I'm referring to.

Queer moments in history-1982

Liquid Sky

The plot: A junkie bisexual model from Connecticut, her dealer/performance artist girlfriend, a junkie boy model (both played by Anne Carlisle), a German scientist, invisible aliens, and a Fairlight synthesizer explore sexuality and drugs in 1980's New York.

So, that's more like the Uncomfortable Plot Summaries version, but you get the picture.

Seriously though, there's more to Liquid Sky than the weirdness. Co-written by Anne Carlisle (who also wrote a novel version) and director Slava Tsukerman, Liquid Sky offers a fictionalized but seemingly authentic glimpse into the New York underground fashion/new wave scene of the early 80's, deals with drug addiction and sexuality/sexual violence/violence, and plays with gender roles and performance through an abstract, arty, and really good looking lens. At times Liquid Sky can be hard to watch (see: sexual violence, violence, drug addiction, etc. ), but unlike a lot of movies made these days,  it doesn't feel overly gratuitous.  This movie takes those kind of heavy concepts, wraps them up in a queer-punk-psychedelic-sci fi blanket, and hangs it off a balcony to dangle above the onlookers below.

If all that isn't enough to convince you, the soundtrack is incredible. Baroque-inspired and made on the Fairlight CMI (the first digital sampling synth), it is a quirky and minimal must hear for any electronic music fan. (One of my friends has the original vinyl and I am SO jealous.) The score is absolutely integral to the overall atmosphere of the film and is one of the most memorable parts of an already very memorable movie.

If what I've described doesn't totally turn you off, and if you can find it-see Liquid Sky. Even if you hate it, it's worth seeing. I've included the trailer and some clips for you to get a taste and some music from the film for you to enjoy!

O HAI!!!!

This is my mom. On a motorcycle. This is the cute gay part of the post.

Here is some music. Esser is a British (All the pop seems to be way better over there, and no, Lady Gaga does not constitute quality US music) electronic musician. When I first heard him, I couldn't get over the wonky accent. What is up with that? Do I sing with a weirdo Midwest accent? I suppose it's not something one can really help, so I got over it pretty quickly, though not as quickly as getting over the fact that Bea Arthur died and ruined my Halloween costume for 2009. Anyways, he's not really gay, actually I don't think he is at all, but a boy can dream right? He's like the hipster grifter, Natasha Khan, and twink porn all rolled into one. With a dash of "O RLY? SRSLY". Here is am mp3 for his single "Headlock" only it's the Spike Stent remix cause it's a bit more colorful sounding. Seriously, some of these UK pop men need to get gay faster. Love you, boo.

Also, a car just drove by my window blasting Wanda Jackson. Today is going to be a good day.

ESPN went gay for a day!

If there's anything that warms my heart more than Lisa Frank, it's hackers. In the early-mid nineties, was there anything cooler than a hacker? Who didn't want to be a hacker? Shit, if it's good enough for Angelina Jolie, Matthew Broderick (..gay..), and Tron, then it's good enough for me. Even Ghostwriter had a hacker episode, featuring Julia Styles as a middle school hell-raiser named "Max Mouse". Get it, Julia!

This is why I was amazed and delighted when ESPN.com was invaded on Monday by some Lisa Frank style hackers. There are two reasons why this is absolutely fantastic.

Reason #1: In order to unlock the hack, you had to input the Konami Code. If you don't know the Konami code from being a total nerd having lots of friends and being super cool, you know it from the song "Anyone Else But You" by the Moldy Peaches ("Up up, down down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start"). Using the code got you all kinds of goodies + super secret levels in a ton of video games (most notably, Contra). Being a little girl forced to play video games with a mouth-breathing, basement dwelling, evil step brother, knowing the code for every game became a life-or-death situation. Thanks for the 1-ups, Konami code!

Reason #2: Once you entered in the Konami Code, all you had to do was hit enter, and the site went all Pride Parade on your ass. With every keystroke, the screen would light up with rainbows and unicorns of the glitter variety! ESPN became "Amazing ESPN!" Each press of the button would coat the screen with loveliness. Of course, like everything else I've ever loved (see : cub, Bleep N' Grind, and Valerie Solanas) I only find out about magical moments in time once they cease to exist. For a small taste of what this amazingness might have been like, you can check out Cornify, the "#1 unicorn and rainbow service worldwide, giving websites sparkle around the world!". Thank god for the internet!
Obviously, we immediately knew what this was about. Clearly, some overzealous queer was submitting to us the Ultimate Chrissy tribute! We are flattered, honored, and humbled, dear hacker. However, because this website failed to include the Angel Kitty herself,  the Young Creatures have no choice but to disqualify this entry. Feel free to email us with your new hackjob! Does Carrie Prejean have a website? I think she could use a little unicorn and rainbow action in her life, don't you?

This having come to light, we've decided to extend the deadline for our Coloring Contest! You now have until Sunday, May 17th to send us your best renditions of Chrissy. Don't have a scanner? Email us for an address, or meet me on a street corner for the pass.

Along with the extended deadline, we've added some awesome, totally queer prizes, including mix CD's lovingly hand crafted by the Young Creatures and some amazing DVDs from Birds of Lace

You can send your submissions to YC@youngcreature.com and you can download Chrissy HERE. We can't wait to see them!
