Marilyn liked to read and so should you

Finery
wants your stories, poems, essays, text monsters and monster texts for our 7th issue. The theme this time around is "myth-making": interpret as you like, the broader & stranger the better! Though we always love a good straight forward myth, too.

Email up to ten pages as an .rtf attachment to birdsoflace@gmail.com by January 31st, 2010. We also like black and white drawings & songs, as this issue will come with a cd. Submissions accepted from self-identified women and queers of all genders.

check out excerpts from past issues here & here

Please re-post/pass along!

Before you my heart was acapella

I actually really like Kelis. I find her to be a breath of fresh air in the pop music industry, cause she takes chances with her sound and image and doesn't apologize for shit. Nobody has a voice like hers (though thin in parts, her husky tones are insane). Lately, Ms. Rogers has been planning a comeback of sorts, with rumored collaborations with Boyz Noize, Calvin Harris, Cee-Lo, and Crookers (which we've heard the product of), taking on a more dance and electronic oriented vibe. The alleged first single from this album, "Acapella", has been leaked by Kelis herself, and the result is a slinky jam produced by David Guetta.

Kelis - Acapella

I honestly hope for the best for her, because success in the US has been somewhat elusive (Bossy, Milkshake, Caught Out There...those aren't even her best songs). Collaborating to much success with Ol' Dirty Bastard, Busta Rhymes, N.E.R.D., and Richard X, she's made more of a name for herself in the UK, where "Lil Star" went to #3. She was also on the remix of Bjork's "Oceania" remix. 2010 might definately be the year of Kelis. Godspeed.

This is the single that should have been 2004.
