Alphabeat (Or for the past 2 years, I've been calling them Alphabutt) released their last album in 2000-whatever to limited success and 1 single that I found cute to listen to. The other 3, not so much. I can safely say their first album was unremarkable and pretty boring compared to first single "Fascination", which had a naive innocence to it.
Come 2010, Alphabeat (whose second album was pushed back from Nov 2009) will release their second record "The Spell" on new label Polydor, after being separating from EMI/Charisma in January 2009. And if you missed bands like Wham!, Snap!, C + C Music Factory, or Ace Of Base, then this record is for you. There's not a song without that cheesy rhythmic 90's dancefloor keyboard chord progression, traded gender vocals, and Stine belting out some diva behavior. Lead single "The Spell", has already been floating around the internet as well as given a wide release. The song is fire. As well as sounding like the best of anything gay from the 90's. Alphabeat really took the sophomore slump seriously, delivering songs that not only improve upon their earlier work, but much like Goldfrapp, has helped them find a musical niche where they sound completely comfortable while still attempting new sounds.

When this record comes out, seriously buy it, because it's 1 of the top contenders for best pop record in a long ass time. YOUR MOVE NEXT, WHITNEY.
